Srinagar, Mar 8, KNT: Scores of students Tuesday staged a protest against JK Human Resource Development and Tahira Khanam (TK) College in Kashmir capital Srinagar.

Students amid raising slogans against TK College located in Lawaypora Srinagar and JKHRD accused both the entities of cheat and deceit, ruining their careers.

While divulging information about the reason for the protest, the aggrieved students told news agency Kashmir News Trust that in January 2021, JKHRD issued an admission notification for students for BSc OT (Operation Theater), BSc MLT (Medical Lab Technology), and BSc Radiology.

“Over 180 students approached JKHRD office located in Lawaypora and got registered. After registration, students received WhatsApp messages from JKHRD asking them to approach TK College for admission and document verification.”

“Some of the students raised queries, however, TK College Administrator, assured all the students that the courses are genuine and everything is fair. Each student deposited Rs 45,000 for the first semester. Every student was supposed to pay Rs 2,70000 for six semesters. TK College didn’t accept fee through a bank or any other mode but asked students to pay hard cash and in return provided receipts.”

Students said that they felt there was something fishy as the TK College resorted to dilly dally tactics in issuing admission numbers.

“Students were adamant to get admission numbers. Sensing trouble, TK College informed that Punjab-based ‘Desh Bakht’ University will provide us login Id (ERP number). To our surprise, students failed to log in to Desh Bakht University website. A couple of students successfully logged in but found only their photographs on the website without any admission detail.”

“We thought it may be some technical problem and appeared in the online examination for the first semester. Again we didn’t receive marks cards for the first semester. Without knowing our admission numbers, we were doubtful whether we are really registered or not, TK College asked us to be ready for the second semester, but the same exercise was repeated. Again, log-in IDs of Desh Bakht University website were provided to the students that never worked.”

The aggrieved students told KNT that finally some of the students personally visited Desh Bakht University in Punjab to ascertain facts. “They were first not allowed to enter the University and finally they came to know that they are not registered with the University.”

“It is big scandal and we demand action against the JKHRD and TK College. JKHRD has an office in Kathua but in Srinagar, it runs office without any registration,” the students claimed and sought the intervention of authorities and the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

One of the protesting students said that the funny part is that the Roll Number slips given to students contained QR Code and when students scanned that code, instead of getting information, they were directed to entertainment and sports channels.

“JKHRD in connivance with TK College looted gullible students and all we want is justice,” the protesting students said. (KNT)
