Unit XI of Mumbai Police Crime Branch busted a sex racket that was operated online through a call centre and arrested one accused. The call centre was set up to operate the entire sex racket. After the Sealink Media office in Malad West was raided by officials, 17 girls were rescued.
During the raid, 19 phones and one laptop were confiscated. The accused, a 35-year-old person who is also the owner of the call centre, was arrested. The officials investigated the matter after they received a complaint from a 42-year-old lady.
An official from the crime branch found out through a mobile app that people were being offered phone sex through video calls in exchange for money. An online chatting application, called Chamet, was used to lure unsuspecting victims.
The accused convinced the young girls to remove their clothes and record
videos. The officials learnt that the accused used ‘digital diamonds’ to pay the girls on calls, who later offered nude video calls or sex talks to their customers.
The accused was remanded to police custody and booked under relevant sections of the IT Act.
