‘Locals demand axing of dead and sagging chinar trees’

Srinagar, Nov 20, KNT: A man from old Srinagar city had a close shave after a branch from dead and sagging Chinar tree outside SMHS Hospital Srinagar came down crashing over his eco-sports vehicle.

Though the man identified as Hilal Ahmad of Kani Mazar Srinagar was present in the vehicle (JK02BK/4017) at the time of mishap, but he escaped unhurt, however, his vehicle suffered some damage.

Locals told news agency Kashmir News Trust that
dead and sagging chinar tree branches outside the hospital are posing serious threat to the road users, especially patients and attendants who visit the hospital in large numbers.

They said there are two grown-up dead chinar trees near the OPD Gate of the hospital. “Both these Chinar trees need to be axed but we don’t understand why authorities are least concerned about it. I think officials will awake from slumber only when some precious lives will get waste,” said a shopkeeper said adding that there has been no damage to life due to tree falling yet, but it
doesn’t mean that the city is safe from this. Authorities concerned have not woken up to the situation despite several incidents of tree falling. (KNT)
